The Fuchsia Garden
The Fuchsia species garden at Lisselan was first thought of in 1999, as a way to extend the flowering season in the gardens. Fuchsia species are at there best from mid July to early November in favourable weather conditions i.e. no frost.
Planting commenced in 2002 with 19 species plants received from nurseries in the U.K from the previous year, as there are no Fuchsia nurseries in Ireland. All Fuchsia species chosen were to keep with the ethos of Robinsonian theme of Lisselan Gardens, a natural mixture of native and exotic species.
Over the last 5 1/2 years we have extended the collection to over 30 species in the garden with more species to be added as they become more sizable. Some species are too delicate and are on pot display. "To the best of my knowledge this is the only collection in Ireland growing outdoors all year round." John Bevan-Head Gardener.
The Irish Fuchsia Society ordered 1st Prize exhibited to the Lisselan Fuchsia Fulgens "Minata" on 16th July 2006.
On September 29th, 2007, the Official Opening took place of the New Fuchsia Garden, with Charlie Wilkins taking the honours of cutting the Fuchisa pink ribbon on the day.

The Fuchsia Brand
The Fuchsia Brand is awarded to Tourism products of the region and reflects positive local characteristics such as environmental quality as well as the richness and diversity of the heritage, culture and landscape. Lisselan received this Quality Award in 2005.
