The River Argideen
Lisselan Estate in Clonakilty holds some of the best private stretches of the River Argideen for salmon and sea trout fishing and promises great fishing trips. There is one mile of double bank fishing with ten named pools and a mile of single bank fishing.
Argideen translated from Irish means Little Silver Stream. The river has one of the best wild, naturally reproducing stocks of salmon and sea-trout in the south-west of Ireland.
Trout are extremely plentiful in the river from May onwards.
Guided fly fishing tours can be organised with a local ghillie, for groups, corporate and business trips, team building sessions and beginners. A ghillie is a vital part of any fishing expedition and our local ghillie knows the River Argideen like the back of his hand! While fishing at Lisselan the splendor of the Gardens can also be enjoyed.
The River Argideen flows fourteen miles to the estuary at Timoleague and joins the sea at the renowned fishing village of Courtmacsherry. The Argideen is an acid river, draining peat bogs and marsh land north-west of Clonakilty.
